Former GOP Rep. Bob Barr Announces Third Party Bid for President
Memo to John McCain: Better watch for attacks from the right.
Bob Barr’s announcement today that he will run as the Libertarian candidate for President has to seriously worry McCain, as he could do to McCain what Nader did to Gore in 2000–siphon off thousands of votes in crucial swing states.
It’d be particularly interesting if Barr is able to actually win a state or two, or at the very least enable Obama to win some critical states in the South, like Florida or Georgia. Conservatives who are upset about the Iraq war may finally have a candidate in this race who they might be comfortable with (other than Ron Paul). And if Ron Paul also runs as an independent this fall, McCain could lose to Obama in a big way.
